Legal Secretary Job Description

We are looking for a specialised Legal Secretary to help with administrative and clerical duties. You will work under the supervision of an attorney and will assist with assigned legal cases.

The goal is to maintain the efficiency of all office procedures and case management in order to ensure dependability and consistency.

Legal Secretary Responsibilities

  • Assist one or more lawyers with administrative tasks.
  • Communicate effectively with witnesses, clients, colleagues, and partners.
  • Greet visitors and conduct preliminary client screening
  • Attend trials and record minutes.
  • Create case briefs and synopses of depositions, contracts, and testimony.
  • Conduct extensive statistical/documentary research
  • Collect and verify critical case intelligence
  • Create and file a variety of legal documents such as appeals, motions, and petitions.
  • Maintain an up-to-date case record system.
  • Answer phone calls, take notes/messages, and redirect calls as needed.
  • Maintain and update contact information inventories
  • Keep multiple agendas and provide timely reminders to help you meet deadlines.

Legal Secretary Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience as a Legal Secretary
  • Understanding of the constitution, legal terminology, regulations, and the court system
  • MS Office proficiency and the ability to work with legal technology are required (court-filing computer systems, transcription software, dictaphone etc)
  • A working knowledge of litigation management software systems is preferred.
  • Excellent time management and typing skills
  • Ability to multitask and be comfortable dealing with a diverse group of people
  • Certification or diploma as a Legal Secretary
