Transformational Leadership

What is Transformational style of Leadership?

Transformational leadership is a leadership theory in which a leader works with teams to recognise needed change, create a vision to guide the change through inspiration and execution in parallel with dedicated members of a team. This shift in self-interest elevates the team's levels of maturity and ideals, as well as their concerns for the achievement.

It is a crucial component of the Full Range Leadership Model. When a leader's actions motivate and inspire people to perform beyond their perceived capabilities, this is referred to as transformational leadership.

What are the four factors of Transformational Leadership?

Idealized influence, inspiring motivation, intellectual stimulation, and individual concern are the four elements of transformational leadership (sometimes known as the "four I's"). Each component will be discussed in order to assist managers in implementing this strategy in the workplace.

1) Idealized influence

Managers who are exceptional role models for associates are described as having idealised influence. Associates may trust and respect managers with idealised influence to make effective decisions for the company.

2) Inspiring motivation

Managers who inspire associates to commit to the organization's vision are known as inspirational motivators. Managers who are inspired motivate their teams to achieve the organization's goals of increasing revenue and market growth.

3) Intellectual stimulation

Managers who stimulate invention and creativity by challenging a group's usual assumptions or viewpoints are known as intellectual stimulators. Managers that are intellectually stimulated encourage critical thinking and problem-solving in order to improve the company.

4) Individual concern

Managers who act as instructors and counsellors to their associates are known as individual considerations. Individualized management encourages associates to achieve goals that benefit both the associates and the organisation.

What is the difference between a transactional and transformational leader?

The notions of transformational leadership were first presented by James MacGregor Burns when he was examining political leaders, but the phrase is now used when studying organisations as well. Burns distinguished between transactional and transformational leadership styles.

Transactional leaders use rewards and perks to entice others to comply with their orders. Transformational leaders work to "transform" others so that they can help one another and the organisation as a whole. Followers of a transformative leader respond with feelings of trust, adoration, loyalty, and respect for the leader, as well as a willingness to work harder than they had anticipated.
